Recent Walks Trip to the Lake District May 08On the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May we set of as usual for our annual Club trip. This year 17 of us headed of to the Lake District. Our bus took us across to Stranraer and onwards towards Ambleside on the road along the shores of Ullswater. The last descent into Ambleside along a road known as "The Struggle" was certainly a struggle for the bus and driver. We got there anyway and decided that was not a route for the bus again. Next morning all aboard the bus again and ready to walk Helvellyn and Striding Edge, some with some trepidation about what Striding Edge might be like. Not a problem and all got back safe and well to the starting point in the pretty village of Glenridding. All who done it were pleased with their achievement and rightly so. It was a great day. A second group took the public bus to Grasmere and took walk around Easdale Tarn followed by a good dose of culture and I'm sure some other refreshments in Grasmere. On Sunday we had the bus drop us off at Raise Beck. We then walked over Fairfield and back into Ambleside. Another great walk helped along by a bracing breeze. Our second group walked to Wansfell Pike from Ambleside. See the Gallery for ome pictures of the trip. Trip to Wicklow May 2007Our annual club trip for 2007 was to the Wicklow Mountains. Overthe weekend we took in walks in the Glendalough Valley, including Camaderry, Lugduff and the Spinc - a good days walking. Most of the group did Lugnaquilla via Faughan Rock Glen and returned to Glenmalure via Cloghernagh. On Sunday we had a beautiful walk at Lough Tay and Lough Dan taking in Fancy Mountain and Knocknacloghhoge. Trip to Wales - May 06On the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May 06 we had our annual club outing to Snowdonia, Wales. A group of 20 and a bus made the crossing from Dublin to Holyhead arriving fit and well in Betws-Y- Coed on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning the bus dropped us at Idwal Cottage from where some of us walked (or scrambled) to the top of Tryfan. After that with the weather closing in we made a traverse of the Glyders - Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr and then down the spectacular Devils Kitchen. On Sunday the entire group made it by various routes to the top of Snowdon itself. The main group took a route from Penn-Y-Pass over Lliwedd to the summit and back down the Pyg track. We had a wonderful clear day with great views at the summit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
